A Love for Tomorrow  by Vanessa Miller
When Christian talk show host Serenity Williams' fiancé calls off their wedding because he can't deal with her popularity, she determines that she will never fall in love with another pride-filled, ego-driven pastor.

Then, Serenity's producer asks her to interview the charismatic Pastor Phillip McKnight, who has recently gone through a divorce. Serenity feels that this is her chance to expose the arrogance of ego-filled pastors to the world.

But Pastor Phillip is broken and humbled from his experiences, and the surprising humility of this man causes Serenity to want to un-break his heart. However, Serenity will need the Lord to fix her heart and change her mind about male preachers before she and Phillip can become all they were meant to be to each other.

A Love for Tomorrow Book Reviews

Trust, Forgiveness, and faith, the core of author Miller’s message are woven into a light love story that offers help and healing… good romance that ministers. – CBA Retailers Reviewer

5.0 out of 5 stars by  Pat Simmons
Vanessa Miller keeps getting better and better with this romantic stuff in her series. I enjoy a happy ending and A Love for Tomorrow delivers. If a man needs pointers on how to romance a woman, ask Phillip. Two hints: gift card and dressing room. That's all I've got to say!  I cheered on Serenity as she refused to settled for less, and I loved how she depicted the life of a preacher's kid (PK). – Reviewed by Pat Simmons

This was one of the best love stories from a Christian perspective that I have ever read." This story is a testament of Gods true love for us and the blessings that he has waiting for us when we reach out to him. The world is a better place because of writers like Vanessa Miller. Her ability to help us see through her eyes by giving us the story of Serenity Williams and Phillip McKnight. The story line which showed that although God is sometimes late by mans standards he's always on time. Ms Miller has yet written another outstanding book and provided her readers to tie a knot and hang on because Gods yet in control.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read! by  Charlene L. Amsden "Quilly"
I loved this story! Finally, a Christian romance that showed couples with issues working their way through them. They sought prayer, meditation, scripture and advice from Godly friends and mentors -- just as the Bible instructs us to do in our daily lives. And, despite the fact that there was much soul searching going on in this book, there was also much action and much story. Vanessa Miller is an excellent writer. I highly recommend this book. It is a page turner that kept me riveted in my seat.

This book is about two people that have been burned in love and have built walls to protect them from being hurt again. But God had a different plan. Serenity and Phillip both have felt pain and eventually they both open up and let love in. This is a great story and I highly recommend it. Phillip is an ideal man which is hard to find nowadays.....

Read an Excerpt from A Love for Tomorrow.

BPM: Vanessa, what makes you powerful as a person and a writer? Who are your mentors?
The thing that makes me powerful as a person and a writer is my faith in God. I feel as if I have found this pot of gold that everyone is searching for, and I just want to share it with the world. I really don’t have any mentors at the moment. But I study authors, attended conferences and read and study this industry.

BPM: Tell us about your passion for writing. Why do you write? What drives you? What impact do you want your book to make on the readers?
I have been writing since I was a kid. I have always known that I would one day be a writer. However, as a child and even while in my twenties, I didn’t know how to make my dream of writing come true. It was after I dedicated my life to the Lord that I began to research this business. Because I then knew that I really had something to say. So, the reason I write is to tell the story about midnight sorrows and morning glory… and the glory comes from knowing Jesus. My characters don’t always start off with this knowledge of Jesus, because I write redemption stories. The impact I’d like my books to have on my readers would simple be that my books help them to rediscover their place with God.

BPM: Finish this sentence- My writing offers the following legacy to future readers...
My writing offers the legacy of hope, healing and faith to my readers. I write stories about people with issues… issues that can be healed through trust in Jesus.

BPM: Introduce us to your latest Christian Romance novel,  A Love for Tomorrow.
Christian talk show host Serenity Williams may be at the top of her game professionally, but when her fiancĂ© calls off their wedding, she learns the true price of fame. He can’t deal with her popularity, and when he walks out, she knows it will be a long time before she lets another pride-filled pastor into her heart. Then she gets assigned an interview with the charismatic Pastor Phillip McKnight. Delighted that she now has the opportunity to expose the arrogance of ego-driven pastors to the world, she isn’t prepared for the real man behind the pulpit. Recently divorced, Phillip is broken from his experiences, and soon his surprising humility causes Serenity not to want to ruin him, but instead to un-break his heart....

A Love for Tomorrow deals with trust issues. It is also a book that explores the benefits of forgiving and rediscovering faith in God. Along the way I add in a love story that is sure to touch the reader’s heart.

BPM: What specific situation or revelation prompted you to write your book?
I wanted to write a series on women in ministry to highlight their accomplishments and show that they are very much human and have feeling and love interests. The reason I am so interested in this topic is because the bishop of my church is a woman and I have met other women in ministry that struggle with the fact that many people still don’t believe that women should preach.

BPM: Take us inside A Love for Tomorrow. What are two major events taking place?
The first major event happens at the beginning of the book. Serenity’s finance’ breaks her heart by calling off the wedding simply because her talk show has made her more popular than he. She decides at that point that preachers are off limits and lumps them all in the same boat with her ex. But then she meet Pastor Phillip McKnight… and he isn’t what she expected…  The next major event occurs when has to deal with her trust issues in order to move on with live and love.

BPM: Who are your favorite characters? Are your characters from the portrayal of real people?
Serenity was my favorite character in this book and the entire series thus far, because I really identified with her. Serenity Williams has been hurt by church people and one particular ego-driven pastor. She vows that she will never let another ego-driven pastor into her heart. But when she meets Pastor Phillip McKnight… she comes in contact with the very man who will help her rediscover her trust in humanity and faith in God.

Some times in life you can be hurt so much that you just refuse to be hurt again… and you build walls. This book shows the reader how to tear down those walls… with the help of God and one really good man.

BPM: Who do you want to reach with your book and the message within?
Anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak and then put up a wall to defend against it ever happening again. I want those people to know that with God in their heart, it is okay to trust and to love again.

BPM: How will reading your book shape the readers lives?
My hope is that reading A Love for Tomorrow will provide readers with answers as to how they can forgive and learn to trust again.  A CBA Retailers Reviewer recently said that… Trust, Forgiveness and faith were at the core of my message in A Love for Tomorrow. I would have to agree with her.

BPM: What are some of the other specific issues or problems addressed in this book?
I also deal with the issue of  "church hurt" in this book. Serenity has grown up in church… and she has seen Christian act not so Christianly at times, and therefore, although she wants to serve God, she wants nothing to do with His people.

BPM: What was the most powerful chapter in the book?
Some of my readers have told me that Chapter 23, when Serenity comes to terms with her trust issues and Chapter 24, the chase scene, when Phillip gets his woman are the most powerful scenes in the book.

BPM: What do you think makes your book different from others on the same subject?
This particular series is Christian Romance. So, I think what makes my romances different from others is simply what a CBA Reviewer had to say about A Love for Tomorrow… it’s good romance that ministers.

Intimate Conversation with Pat G'Orge-Walker

Intimate Conversation with author Pat G'Orge-Walker  aka Sister Betty

Pat G'Orge-Walker  is the Essence bestselling author of Somebody's Sinning in My Bed; Somewhat Saved; Cruisin' on Desperation; Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead; Sister Betty, God's Calling You, Again!; and contributed a short story to the anthology Proverbs for the People.

Growing up a preacher's kid gave G'Orge-Walker a quirky perspective on the church community and inspired her to create a one-woman comedy show centering on Sister Betty, an elderly super saint whose un-Christian-like behavior blocks her blessings. With the success of the Sister Betty comedy show, G'Orge-Walker turned her humor and imagination to writing. She resides in Long Island, New York, with husband Rob. Visit her online on Facebook, http://www.sisterbetty.com/ and http://www.patgorgewalker.com/

BPM:  What makes you powerful as a person and a writer?  PGW:  I believe a part of what makes me powerful as a person and a writer is my honesty. I strive to be honest and it does help being a woman of a “certain age.” When you are honest, you have less reason for apology. It is what it is. I often tell people, “don’t ask me if you don’t want to know the truth.”  Now having said that, it is also in my opinion my responsibility to frame my words, and opinions in such a manner that will bring about a discussion or if necessary debate for growth,

BPM:  How much of what you write reflects on your outlook on life?PGW:  There is no set formula for me. How much of what I write that reflects my outlook on life depends on the story,, and where the story or characters take me. A good example for me is my Essence Best Seller, “Somewhat Saved.” This particular story embodies not only a portion of my real like experiences but gives me an opportunity to highlight what I perceived are observations and hopefully, solutions, to the complex father/daughter relationship. And, I always try to relate in any of my stories the power of choices. There are always repercussions, good or bad, from choices; and you do reap what you sow in some form or fashion.

BPM:  Who are your mentors? Where do you find your inspiration?PGW:  My mentors are varied. I would consider my third grade teacher, Ms. Bobbi Madison-Mackey of Williamston, SC to be a formidable force in my life. Had it not been for her I believe my imagination probably would’ve suffered tremendously. When I was a child, she’d always take the time to listen or read some of my crazy or over-imaginative ideas and stories. She still lives in Williamston, SC. According to Ms. Mackey, “Patricia, I am not surprised that you became a writer. You were the biggest liar I had in the third grade. Your imagination was incredible.”

My other mentors would be Dr. Maya Angelou and Dr. Rosie Milligan. Dr. Angelou spent five minutes with me. Back in the 1970’s she impressed upon me to be honest in my approach to writing. Those words never left me. As for Dr. Milligan, she will always have a place in my heart. Dr. Milligan saw the worth of a little book I’d published called “Sister Betty! God’s Calling You.” Dr. Milligan took that small book with only a staple in the middle and put it on her Ingram Distribution account. The rest is history.

BPM:  Introduce us to your latest book and the main characters. What genre is this book?PGW:  I’d like to introduce you to “Don’t Blame the Devil.”   This book is listed under “Urban Christian.”

The main characters are Delilah Dupree Jewel; she’s sixty-three years old (when she tells the truth about her age) a former R&B singer who looks like Lena Horne with a failed career. In her twenties, she’d given up her two-year old son and left her imprisoned husband to follow a career in show biz. Older and wiser, she wants to reclaim her life and find her son. She also decides to advise Jehovah as to how she wants it done. Jessie Jewel is Delilah’s forty-year old abandoned who is a police officer, a church trustee and a recent widower trying to raise a twenty-one year old spoiled chanteuse on his own. The last thing he wants is the mother who abandoned him reentering his life and bringing drama with her.

And returning from “Somebody’s Sinning in My Bed”/Deacon Thurgood Pillar. The wizen fashion disaster with a conk is back. He is Delilah’s estranged husband. She’d abandoned when he went to prison. Deacon Pillar is still the wise-cracking- know-it-all, shooting from the lip former gangster who traded in his gun for a bible. He thought his relationship with God was on solid ground until he discovers Delilah’s back in town. The last thing he needs is for Delilah to find out that not only does he know where Jessie lives but that he’s never revealed his true relationship to Jessie. It’s a story about second chances and forgiveness and all the mess that only faith can clean up.

BPM:  What specific situation or revelation prompted you to write your book? PGW:  As a child, I didn’t see my mother from the time I was nine until I was nineteen. A situation like this is complicated when you only have one side of the story and you hope that it’s the truth. What do you do when you find out it’s not? How do you see you as a whole person with only a half of an identity? It’s as though the missing parent holds the key to your confidence and trust because you don’t know if who you are is all you can be or even meant to be.

BPM:  Who are your favorites? Are your characters from the portrayal of real people?PGW:  My favorite characters I would have to say Delilah and Thurgood aka "Thur-No-good."  I had an absolute ball writing for those two. They’re like salt and vinegar, Fric and Frack, opposites in every sense of the word … until you want to mess with either of them. They can’t get along but have each other’s back when the stuff hits the air-conditioner. In other words, no one could stand them but each other. J

BPM:  What role do you give the "mean-spirited" characters? Do you have such characters?PGW:  I don’t really have any “mean-spirited” characters. I do have some overly opinionated characters and that can lead them into trouble not only for others, but also for themselves.

BPM:  Who do you want to reach with your book and the message within?PGW:  I want to reach those who feel hopelessness as well as those who feel they've not been or cannot be forgiven.  My message in this story two fold. Sometimes God has to let you fall on purpose so He can rebuild you for His purpose. I want people to know that grace and mercy exists for us. Grace is undeserved and mercy is unearned, but it’s there for the asking and the taking.

BPM:   What are some of the specific issues, needs or problems addressed in this book?PGW:  Some of the specific issues in my book are:  the need for taking responsibility for actions, accepting and giving forgiveness and choices and their impact. The problem is that there is no one answer for any of these.

BPM:  What was the most powerful chapter in the book?PGW:  In my opinion, the most powerful chapter in the book comes when God throws a monkey wrench into the Jewel family plans. Skeletons pour from the closet clunking everyone upside their heads J

BPM:   What do you think makes your book different from others on the same subject?PGW:  Well I believe the comedic touch makes my book different. The Publisher Weekly review thought the same.

BPM:   Ultimately, what do you want readers to gain from your book?PGW:  Ultimately, I want the readers to embrace the rewards and availability of second chances. I want them to consider what to do when they come about.

BPM:   What do you think of the increasingly gratuitous sex in African American literature? PGW:  I can’t really speak to that because I don’t read those types of books, or at least I’ve not come across any, as yet. I am a fan of Tracy Price Thompson who I feel in the “Tracy Price Thompson” books have sex scenes that are not gratuitous. I purposely say this because I’ve heard that she writes under another name of which I’m not too familiar with so I can’t speak about those books.

BPM:  What three elements complete a formula for Happiness, Success or Freedom?PGW:  I wish I knew a universal formula. For me the three elements are: prayer, obedience to God and again, honesty.

BPM:  Finish this sentence- My writing offers the following legacy to future readers... PGW:  My writing offers the following legacy to future readers: I pray that my legacy would come from the perspective of humor, honesty and hope. I’ve lived through more tragedies than I can count and have maintained my honesty in speaking about them and clung to the hope and experience that God will see me through. He has definitely done that.

BPM:   Share with us your latest news or upcoming book releases.  PGW:  My latest news is that I will have a Christmas book available for 2011. I’m very proud that Kensington/Dafina asked that I write one involving Sister Betty and her zany church members. It will touch on the subject of the economy as well as the often-misunderstood church stand on wealth.

As for awards, I recently received the Nassau County African American award for Literary Excellence and a medal for Literary Accomplishments from the Town of Freeport and a citation from Nassau County as well. I will have books published thus far in 2010, 2011 and 2012.  Christian comedian D’Lo (Upstage Comedians) and I are in the process of launching our “chURch NuTTz TV” website. We’ve tried it on Facebook and the feedback has been phenomenal.

Don't  Blame the Devil  by Pat G'Orge-Walker

Walker's latest hilarious faith-based romp spotlights a devilish diva who finally realizes that, although she might look like Lena Horne, she "ain't Lena Horne."  But in Walker's world, second chances at happiness are not only possible but probable, even at 63. Almost 40 years have passed since Delilah Dupree Jewel left her husband, Deacon Thurgood (aka "Thur-no-good") and put their two-year-old son, Jessie, in foster care in order to pursue a career in showbiz that took her all the way to California.

Back in New York, running out of money (but not out of smarts) and licking the wounds of her failed shot at stardom, she asks Jehovah for help. Ask and ye shall receive: she runs right into Thurgood at Harlem's New Hope Assembly Church. Now 70, but still sporting the same hairstyle he wore in his youth, Deacon is mortified; he doesn't want Delilah to know that he's befriended Jessie, now a widower, but he's never told Jessie that he's his real father. But the truth finally, and humorously, comes out. Walker shines a little light on a wacky family reunion with her usual inspirational, knee-slapping style.
-- From Publishers Weekly Book Review

Hang on to your seat as Pat G'Orge Walker spins a hilarious, inspiring novel of mistakes and second chances, heartache and love, sin and salvation...

Appearances mean everything to Delilah Dupree Jewel. So after hearing of her daughter-in-law's sudden death, Delilah decides that coming to the rescue of her long estranged son Jesse and her granddaughter Tamara would be a good look . . . though Lord knows she-ll have to dig hard to find her maternal instincts.

But Delilah quickly discovers Jesse wants nothing to do with her. And Tamara, who's following in Delilah's musical footsteps, isn't interested in her career advice, especially since Delilah got ahead using the singing couch. And Delilah's old flame Deacon Pillar, an ex-convict who-s traded in his gangster ways for a Bible, is stirring up a past that-s sure to shock.  Now, all Delilah knows is that she'd better hold on to her faith, because she needs God now more than ever. . . .

Don't Blame the Devil  by Pat G'Orge-Walker
BOOK EXCERPT:

“Okay, that’s enough!” Tamara said finally. “I think I want a DNA test done before I believe that I’m carrying any genes from you two. Damn!”

“Hold up young lady, didn’t I tell you before that you can’t cuss. You got too much class for such language.” The deacon rose from his seat to put emphasis on what he’d said. Pointing to Delilah, he continued, “Now Dee Dee only pretends to have a lot of class. That’s why she has the potty mouth.”

And then Delilah and the deacon went for round two. They were scrapping like two old champions and several times, they each laid a verbal T.K.O. One acted as if they knew more than the other did when it came to God’s word.

“Stop acting like this Dee Dee. Baby Girl knows Christians don’t fight like cats and dogs.”

Well stop acting like God didn’t have a mafia in the Bible, Delilah barked.

Delilah turned to her granddaughter and smiled. “Tamara sweetheart, I know you’ve gone to church probably a lot more and longer than me.”

“I know I sure have.” Deacon Pillar muttered.

“I don’t care if I’ve only passed by a church or only seen a picture of it,” Delilah snapped, “I still know about God. So you two can’t tell me that you don’t know that God gave permission to some of his folks to kill or maim other folks.”

Delilah’s supposed words of wisdom hung in the air like a mushroom cloud. “Y’all need to read up a bit more from your Bible. Try reading the Old Testament. There was a lot of retribution going on. I don’t know how y’all call yourselves a deacon and a church girl and don’t know about God’s mafia. God had a hit list too. In fact, if I recall Moses was one of God’s biggest enforcer’s just like that Mafioso Tony Soprano on television.”

Delilah grabbed a nearby broom and threw it to the floor. “You know Moses took a broomstick and turned it into a snake and then he sure turned that Pharaoh into a punk. He did all that after God gave him the go-ahead. And you think David would’ve killed Goliath if God hadn’t wanted it to happen?”

Both the deacon’s and Tamara’s jaws dropped.

Tamara leaned over and whispered to Deacon Pillar.” She’s not kidding is she?”

“She’s as serious as Obama was about becoming President.”
